The Potential for Adoption of Electronic Commerce in the Tasmanian Timber Industry

This paper reports on research set in the Tasmanian timber industry that aimed to increase the competitiveness of the industry by identifying options for the adoption of electronic commerce. As part of the investigation the information flows that took place within the industry were mapped. An interpretivist epistemology was used for the study, which adopted qualitative methods and a case study approach. Little, if any, prior relevant research had been undertaken in the Tasmanian timber industry. The study revealed the state of readiness of the Tasmanian timber industry to adopt electronic commerce, and recommended areas within the industry that had most potential for its introduction.
